Unlocking a Greener Future: Turning Passive Compliance into Proactive Action with Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) Reporting

On December 3, 2025, HOUSELINK JSC, in collaboration with strategic sponsors GLASSDOME and LRQA, successfully hosted the specialized seminar titled “Carbon Emissions Reporting – From Passive Compliance to Proactive Strategy” at InterContinental Landmark72 Hotel in Hanoi.

The event was honored to welcome representatives from government agencies, ministries, and industry authorities, while attracting nearly 100 senior executives and experts from leading manufacturing enterprises across Vietnam. The seminar focused on one of the most pressing strategic priorities in today’s increasingly integrated global economy: greenhouse gas inventory management and emissions data transparency.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Chief Executive Officer of HOUSELINK JSC, emphasized the growing importance of greenhouse gas inventory management for Vietnamese enterprises.

Following extensive collaboration with partners to survey more than 4,000 manufacturing companies nationwide, Mr. Long noted that many businesses still face significant challenges in conducting greenhouse gas inventories due to unstandardized internal data systems, fragmented information sources, and insufficient data integration to meet increasingly stringent international market requirements. At the same time, evolving regulatory frameworks continue to create additional complexity. While the implementation roadmap and associated investment costs undoubtedly place pressure on businesses, Mr. Long stressed that this transition also presents a major opportunity for enterprises that proactively adapt and establish comprehensive emissions management systems to strengthen their competitiveness.

According to Mr. Long, “Turning passive compliance into proactive strategy” was the core message the seminar aimed to deliver to the business community. He emphasized that greenhouse gas inventory reporting should not merely be viewed as a regulatory obligation, but rather as a strategic management tool capable of enhancing brand value and strengthening credibility with international partners.

The seminar was therefore expected to directly address key concerns shared by businesses today — from legal compliance requirements and data transparency methodologies to practical approaches for transforming carbon reporting into a long-term competitive advantage amid deepening global integration.

To help businesses gain a clearer understanding of Vietnam’s legal framework in this field, Mr. Nguyen Van Hong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the country’s regulatory landscape related to greenhouse gas inventory management.

During his presentation, Mr. Hong provided an in-depth analysis of current regulations governing the development of Vietnam’s carbon market, while also clarifying the Government’s emission reduction objectives embedded within national strategies and policies. In addition, he highlighted the responsibilities assigned to different categories of enterprises and facilities, as well as the roadmap for the development of Vietnam’s domestic carbon market, aimed at ensuring a fair, transparent, and internationally aligned carbon credit trading system suited to Vietnam’s national conditions.

Mr. Hong emphasized that Vietnamese enterprises must proactively establish compliance roadmaps, strengthen internal capabilities, and enhance risk management strategies in order to keep pace with the global transition toward low-carbon development. Failure to do so could leave businesses increasingly vulnerable to stricter environmental and sustainability requirements imposed by international markets.

Continuing the program, the seminar welcomed an insightful presentation by Ms. Lee Jun Hui, Managing Director of Barun Law, one of South Korea’s leading law firms with extensive experience in advising enterprises on ESG-related matters.

Ms. Lee provided an in-depth analysis of the significant transformation taking place across global supply chains under the pressure of carbon reduction trends, which is driving substantial changes in ESG governance strategies across many countries.

She also highlighted the differences in carbon emission regulations and sustainability trends among various regions, as well as the growing compliance pressure faced by Vietnamese enterprises. According to Ms. Lee, proactively managing carbon emissions not only enables businesses to better anticipate and mitigate risks, but also creates new business opportunities and enhances brand value. She emphasized that ESG should no longer be viewed merely as a compliance obligation, but rather as a strategic growth driver for long-term business development.

Addressing the issue of data transparency, Mr. Ho Ngoc Thien Khai, Strategic Account Manager at LRQA, shared practical insights from the perspective of a globally recognized verification and assurance provider.

Mr. Khai emphasized that the technical integrity of emissions data is a critical factor in building trust with international partners. When emissions data is accurately verified and aligned with international standards, it becomes a reliable foundation for tracking carbon reduction targets in real time — an increasingly important requirement for deeper participation in global supply chains and for demonstrating a company’s genuine commitment to sustainable development.

He further noted that although many businesses have already begun preparing emissions reports, their data often remains inconsistent, lacks traceability, or is not supported by sufficient evidence, making it difficult to satisfy third-party verification requirements.

To address these challenges, Mr. Khai introduced a standardized data collection and verification framework, including assessment procedures, inspection methodologies, and benchmarking against technical standards tailored to the specific operational conditions of each enterprise.

One of the seminar’s most notable sessions came from Mr. TJ Yoon, Global Business Director of GLASSDOME.

As Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) reporting and greenhouse gas inventory management increasingly become essential requirements for participating in global supply chains, manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam are facing growing pressure to strengthen their carbon data management and disclosure capabilities in a more systematic and professional manner.

Drawing from extensive experience in implementing greenhouse gas inventory systems for major manufacturing corporations, combined with the application of specialized software solutions, Mr. Yoon provided practical insights into the common challenges businesses encounter today. In particular, he highlighted the difficulties associated with collecting fragmented operational data and relying on traditional calculation methods, which are often complex, time-consuming, and prone to inaccuracies.

During the seminar, representatives from GLASSDOME introduced an integrated approach to managing energy, raw material, and equipment data, along with methodologies for calculating carbon emissions at the product level and developing factory-wide data management systems.

Based on this framework, GLASSDOME proposed a practical roadmap tailored to Vietnam’s manufacturing environment, aimed at helping local producers become more proactive in meeting international carbon disclosure standards and sustainability reporting requirements.

Also speaking at the conference, Kwak Hanwool of LG Electronics Vehicle Solution — a pioneer in automotive solutions — laid out what emissions reporting now looks like from the manufacturer’s side of the table. Carbon regulations keep widening in scope, he said, and the demands placed on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) are growing more varied and exacting in step. Manufacturers across the board, and automakers in particular, are being asked to deliver emissions data in an expanding range of formats. The underlying logic, Kwak argued, is competitiveness: tighter supply-chain quality management, sustainability standards taking hold, CO2 compliance becoming non-negotiable, and the circular economy moving from talking point to operating model.

Also taking the stage was Đoàn Thùy Dương of FPT Software’s Strategy Consulting unit, who walked the audience through a short showcase of technology solutions built for manufacturing and supply chain operations.

The talks gave way to a Q&A session in which attendees pressed the panel on greenhouse gas inventories, the data demands flowing down from OEMs, and the compliance road ahead. Each question drew a specific response, paired with practical pointers on how companies can move faster under the new rules of the game. The exchange brought the immediate challenges into sharper focus and pointed to a workable path forward for corporate sustainability work.

Bringing the event to a close, Jinki Ham, CEO of GLASSDOME, thanked the speakers, guests, and the business community that turned out for the program. In today’s global supply chains, he said, transparency and verified carbon data are fast becoming the new yardstick of competitiveness. The conference, in his view, was a chance to put practical solutions on the table — solutions that can help Vietnamese manufacturers raise their readiness for the mounting demands flowing in from international markets.

More than a knowledge update, the event served as a forum for connection and the exchange of experience on the road toward a sustainable future and deeper global integration. HOUSELINK and its partners plan to keep staging similar gatherings in support of the business community.
